Message I don't know how much this would help or how much is true but I was just talking to our facility maintenance guy and this is what he had to say:

For people that own automatics and have the issue that the transmission seems to be "searching" for a gear when you press down on the gas pedal there maybe a few issues that causes this.

According to him one reason could be that the catalytic converter could be clogged. He says that when the cats are clogged it places a 'minor' load on the engine. Of course we can't really tell the difference (perhaps some slight hesitation or just the lack of power), but the transmission can. He says when there is a load on the engine the trans tries to search for the best possable gear i.e. the seraching portion.

Another one he mentioned is that the little turbine fans on the torque converter could be worn out. He said the best way he can think of checking (without having to remove the tranny) is to drain all trans. fluid and replace filter. Drive for about a month. Drain your fluid again. If the fluid is black or dark in color (not the usual light or pinkish color) then the tiny fans on the torque converter has worn out.

I have no clue when it comes to trannies so please take this with a grain of salt. Or if anyone out there that has a clue about what I'm talking about please feel free to translate if I'm not making any sense. I just wanted to post this as it may help a few fellow Z'ers out there that I have seen post with this kind of issue.

Latz,

James-Lee
